Wheelchairs Basketball Players



Name: Hadar Rise
Residence: Katzrin
Age: 23
History: Hadar was a professional basketball player for 12 years, and 3 years ago she was injured in her knee during a basketball game. The injury was severe and made her unable to play anymore. She met the wheelchair basketball game by her aunt that was an Olympic player, and during the last three years she plays wheelchair basketball, and half a year with the team.
Hadar is also a student of physical education.


Name: Rachel Sa'id
Residence: Petah-Tikva
Age: 57
History: At the age of eighteen months she fell ill in Polio (a muscle paralysis disease common among children under 5 years old). In her childhood "Ilan" association started doing activities, summer camps and sport classes to the children damaged by the disease. She started as a swimmer, then advanced to fencing, basketball, tennis, and in all those she compete in Olympic Games and won medals.
In 1976 she won gold medals in basketball and fencing. During 5 Olympic Games she won abundance amount of gold, silver and bronze medals. Rachel is the captain of the team.


Name: Nurit Ya'akov
Residence: Petah-Tikva
Age: 53
History: At the age of 3 years she fell ill in Polio due to a failure in a vaccine. 9 years later she joined the Spivak club; there she started with the disabled sports. She was driving from Pardes-Hana to Ramat-Gan alone in 3 buses. She participated in 4 Olympic Games. Basketball was always an important part in her life.


Name: Rachel Ben-Avi
Residence: Petah-Tikva
Age: 40
History: She fell ill in Osteomyelitis in the age of 11 and as a result she lost her knee joint. A disabled athlete she met convinced her to play the wheelchair basketball game and this way she participated in two Europe competitions and keeps playing until now.


Name: Nava Koren
Residence: Dolev/Ramat-Gan
Age: 25
History: She injured in the age of 20 in her back and legs (a multi-system injury). She found the disabled sport through the rehabilitation hospital, there she met the manager of the team.
Nava is also a student of education and hydrotherapist.


Name: Moran Samuel
Residence: Atlit
Age: 28
History: She played basketball for 15 years, she played in the premier league and in Israel team of girls. She also trained girl teams for 8 years. She injured 3 years ago as a result of a neurological event. Today she is disabled partially.
She found the wheelchair basketball through her partner of studies in her university, and she plays for a year so far.
Moran is physiotherapeutic of children, and she also completes her MA parallel.


Name: Yarden Hershko
Residence: Carcur
Age: 20
History: She was injured during her military service. In a physiotherapy institute she met the manager of the team that brought her to the wheelchair basketball sport and to her team. Yarden plays in the team for a year.


Name: Miri Shem-Tov Matsliach
Residence: Bat-Yam
Age: 22
History: In the age of 20 she made an accident with her motorbike and injured in multi-systems. The hospital sent her to professional rehabilitation, there she met a social worker that directed her to the wheelchair basketball sport.


Name: Bat-El Bibi
Residence: Ramat-Gan
Age: 20
History: Injured by falling from a building, and then got to the wheelchair basketball sport. Today she is disabled in her lower part of the body and therefore attached to a wheelchair. She participated in the campaign of the disabled party, and there met a wheelchair basketball player that advised her to join the sport, and since then she plays for a year.
She is also a law student and she really likes the profession.
