The Israeli Minister of Science and Technology visit at our school
During the preparation period, the Israeli Minister of Science and Technology came to our school to see our Robotics' team.
We showed him the place we are working at, the Robotics room and the workshop. We explained him about FIRST- about it's values, it's visions, it's history, it's faith, and about the organization, both the international and Israeli, in general.
Then we explained him about FRC particularly - a competition between robots built by high school students that work together to complete the current season's task and build a robot that competes in the competition. In addition, we invited him to the competition.
Afterwards, we explained him about the structure of the team- the team is divided to groups while each of them works separately about a different task, such as building the robot, making the site, creating the animations and the sketching, programming the robot, etc. Each group explained him about their progress, their target and their contribution to the team.
After explaining him the rules of 2009's game, we presented him our last season's robot, and after teaching him how the mechanism works we let him test the robot, and while moving the robot around, he picked up some moon rocks and shot them. We also showed him the autonomous movement of the robot.
After showing him our progress in the FRC, we presented him our FLL teams while explaining him about it's competition- a competition of Lego-robots built by elementary school kids guided by our team members. Then we showed him one of our FLL robots, controlled by an 8th grade FLL member, using his cellphone with the Bluetooth software.
During his visit we also explained him how FIRST combines math, physics, strategy, electronics, pneumatics, mechanical drawing, programming, team working, meeting deadlines, and many other values.
