The FLL
In the year of 2006 Steampunk started its FLL tradition, by running an FLL team.
Today, we run 4.
4 years has passed, as well as 4 different games, 4 competitions, 4 projects and 14 teams.
In the beginning of the school year, members of Steampunk visit in junior high schools and recruit children of the 7th to 9th grade to the project that starts a month later.
The first weeks of the project are dedicated to the teamwork and the cooperation between the team members, as well as for knowing the Lego parts, the Mindstorms program and learning mechanics. Afterwards, as the game is released, the kids are learning it and think about strategy to improve the robot's implementation. Then, the team is divided into two crews, Building and Programming, when every crew is specializing in its subjects.
The Building Crew is responsible for the structure of the robot, and the programming crew is responsible for the program and the sensors activating. Together they cooperate their way to develop a productive robot.
At the beginning the kids are working twice a week and as the competition is getting closer they work every day.
At the FLL competition day, that occurs in the second day of the FRC's, the kids come with us to the arena in Tel Aviv and their guides sacrifice the FRC competition day for the FLL competition.
In addition to the technical part of their work, the FLL kids come with us to the community service activities. For example, a few FLL members came with us to Schneider Children's Hospital and were a complete part of us during the activity.
"The FLL had definitely changed my life. If I hadn't participated in the FLL I probably wouldn't get to the FRC. When I look back at this time I think that these months were the ones that influenced me the most", says Stuv, one of our team members who participated 2 years in the FLL as a team member, and 2 years as a guide.
