Beta testing


SteamPunk 1577 is a beta testing group for FRC this year, the second one in a row. As such, our prime mission is to test some of the new technologies and concepts that FIRST intends to integrate into the competition.

We are mostly occupied with testing new LABView versions. We also tested the new driver station, based on the Classmate laptop computer, and the Cypress FirstTouch developmental board. .

Beta testing involves completing series of tasks set by FIRST, and reporting the progress and achievements we've made, as well as the bugs we have found. Our findings are then shared and discussed with the rest of the FRC Beta community, and along with the developers of the tested systems we act to solve the bugs and determine the right way to work with the new software and hardware components.

Being a beta testing group comes with the responsibility of distributing knowledge throughout the FIRST community. We invited several Israeli groups to our lab and shared with them the new knowledge we acquired. Naturally, we intend to help and support fellow groups throughout the building season.
