Microsoft's CEO Visits our school
In the ninth of February Microsoft's CEO came to our school to visit our Robotics division. This is the third year Microsoft R&D sponsors us, and, like in previous years, their CEO, Moshe Lichtman, visits our school approximately in the fourth week of our building period to hear about the current game, the crews, and our progress so far.
During his visit, Mr. Lichtman passed through the different crews, starting with Strategy that explained him about the rules of "Breakaway" and our plans until the deadline. The crew told him about the general goals of the game, presented him the conclusions he found so far, and explained him about the small problems that make the robot so difficult to build. Finally, they showed him the coach book with all their strategic moves that they wrote.
Afterward, Building crew told him about the systems we chose to use in our robot, and explained him how and why the building progress was done this way. They explained him about the mechanical problems with the building and their solutions that we found and developed. Then they demonstrated him the actions of the robot – kicking the ball, passing the Bump, etc.
After watching the progress of Building crew, he continued to Programming crew to hear about their missions this season. They showed him the multiple uses of sensors in our robot and the work it provides them. They also explained him about their part in adjusting the power and the direction of the kick according to the location of the target over the goal.
Mechanical Drawing crew explained him about their part in directing Building crew. They explained him about their drawing techniques in the program they are working with. Later he saw our site and got explanation about its development and about the social activities that are marked in it. Then he also saw the basketball coaching and noticed the support we supply them.
In the end of his visit, Mr. Lichtman went away encouraged and full of experiences while knowing that Steampunk continues with it's traditions of working together as a team, participating in community services and full of hopes to win the competition.
