About FIRST

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an organization founded by inventor Dean Kamen in 1992 as a way of getting high school students involved in and excited about science and technology.
The program involves teams of mentors and high school students that collaborate to design and build a robot in six weeks.
This robot is built for the purpose of playing a game that is designed and implemented by FIRST.
The game changes from year to year and is announced annually at a nationally simulcast kickoff event in January.
Regional competitions take place around the world; FIRST is an international organization that currently has teams from all over the world.
However, only Brazil, Canada, Israel, Mexico, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the United States have FRC teams.

Why did we choose FIRST?

In the first years of Aviv high school's robotics department, the students and teachers started learning basics of robotics and prepared the lab and themselves for the years to come. After 3 years, we started by taking part in the Fire Fighting Robot competition, and in those 2 years we achieved great accomplishments, including getting to the 2nd place in the international championship both in 2003 and 2004.

After that we decided to move on to greater challenges in the robotics world, and it was chosen to join the First Robotics Competition. We pioneered FRC in Israel along with 11 teams from all over Israel. We love the challenge FIRST gives to teams, as well as the values the organization stands for, and so it was chosen as our primary focus.

Last year we were chosen as the Regional Chairman's award winner, and it is the peak of our accomplishments in FIRST.
Today after 4 years of FIRST, we are getting ready for the 5th year we'll be taking part in the FRC, and are very excited towards the Kickoff day.
We hope to continue to be a team that "stands for the values of FIRST" as we were described when we won the Chairman's award last year.
