Community Service
"Hazen Al Akol"
As part of our community service, Steampunk 1577 made contact with the foundation "Hazen Al Akol".
The foundation collects, pack and distribute food to the needy. They referred us to one of thier warehouses in "Kfar-Saba" so that we help them pack fruits, vegtables and dried fruits and then hand them out to the needy.
We arrived the warehouse at 10 am and met Shlomo, Nissim ,Moshe and another group of kids from "Bar Ilan" school and immediately started packing.
Outside awaited us big crates of oranges, potatoes, broccolies, tomatoes, apples and dried fruits. From the crates, we moved the fruits to smaller boxes. After that, we took boxes with dried food that were prepared by the kids from the school, and we added to them the fruits.
We gave each box a number of fruits based on the members of the families that the box was to be given to, and then we arranged the dried fruits to small bags and packed them into the deliveries.
The proccess wasn't very simple considering the amount of food that was there, but it was very enjoyable. Afterwards, we loaded the crates with the food to the truck that waited outside, so our handy work would pass to those who needs it.
We very enjoyed helping those families, and even though we don't know who those food cases are given to, we are sure we made some families happier with just a few hours of work.
Izi Shapira
At Hanuka holiday some of our team members went to "Beit Izi Shapira" in Ra'anana, a communal organization that gives an educational and treatment service for kids at all ages, and works to advance the rights of people with special needs.
The day at Izi Shapira was very active - we kept the kids playing social games referring to Hanuka, like dreidels competition, puns, etc.
Then, the crew of the place organized a candle kindling and the kids took part in it. In addition, the activity included oeuvres creation and bathing in the pool of the place. At the end of the day came a dog trainer which was escirted by three dogs that really amazed the kids.
To sum up, we really enjoyed taking part in the day and cheering up the kids, and felt satisfied, just like the kids.
Assisting Other Teams
In our team there is a tradition of lending equipments to other teams.
Along the years we accepted requests of teams and did all we can to give them the equipments they need.
However, our generous behaviour cost us dearly, and by looking backawrds we can see that hundreds of dolars were borrowed to other teams in order to help them establishing themselves.
We learned that helping and sharing what we have with other teams can make us feel happy and satisfied.
Many teams came back to thank us for the support we gave them and the pneumatic and electric equipments they got from us (like victors, engines, lazy susans, transmissions, etc).
The traditional giving and helping constitute a main part of our team, and we will be glad to keep the tradition, and give and contribute as much as we can.
Table To Table
On monday the 09.02.09 five of us met with a project coordinator, Raheli, on a little street in Ra'anana.
We visited many streets and collected citrus fruits from wealthy houses to give to needy families.
As a part of the process our team climbed trees and ladders in order to collect the fruits into countless plastic bags.
The activity was a part of the "Table to Table" non-profit organization which works to help families in distress.
The team said they enjoyed the experiece and were glad to help and contribute to others.
Following the fruit collecting we experienced, we decided to continue our contribute to the community by handing out leaflets with information about community service in our neighborhood.
There is no doubt our cooperation and contibution will continue and that Steampunk #1577 was glad to find the local residents eager to help the "Table to Table" organization.
