Women's Empowerment

Steampunk believes that we should address the subject of women's empowerment because sadly the number of young women in the scientific field is small. Case and point, the small amount of women in our own team - this year Steampunk consists 22 students, while only 3 of them are girls (and that was the same case in previous years).
We decided to perform the activity among young kids, and that's why we chose the junior high schools as our main audiance.
We organized the Women's Empowerment's day in "Eshkol Hapais", the center of science in ra'anana, and invited all the girls with the highest grades in the scientific subjects.
At the day of the activity we passed a short lecture to the students about the robotics program at Aviv, the FIRST organization and competitions, and the technological field in general.
In addition to this we spoke of science and technology at the academic level in Israel while repeating the motto "so can you".
We included riddles as one of the activaties, as well as constructing hot air ballons from house hold materials (including an explanation of the science behind the activaty), in which the girls took intrest.

A great deal of our activities have to do with women's empowermet using science, we feel it is very importent.
also in previous years the team ran activities, they were always fun and somewhat fruitfull, for the number of girls in the FLL teams has risen and one previous FLL student is now part of the Steampunk team.

Blood Donation

Lions Clubs International is the world's largest secular service organization with over 44,500 clubs and more than 1.3 million members in 205 countries around the world. The "Lions" organization conduct vision and health screenings, build parks, support eye hospitals, award scholarships, assist youth, provide help in time of disaster and much more.

We decided to help them to collect blood donations for the blood bank. We spent the whole day trying to find donors for the bank.

FLL Seminar

FIRST has organized an FLL seminar for the FLL teams in Israel, and we hosted the seminar in our school.
The target of the seminar was to make sure the FLL teams in Israel understand the missions and the program properly.
Two professional lecturers came from "Robotec" and instructed the seminar. One teached the people at the seminar the NXT program, while the other one teached them NXT construction ways, and gave them tips about this year's missions.
FLL teams came from all over Israel, and even our FLL guides took interest in the lectures.
We thank FIRST Israel for the opportunity to host this wonderful seminar and all those FLL teams, as Steampunk holds FLL as one of the most important things we do, Encouraging young people to experience technology.

A Technological Day

After the successful e-Camp many people took our phone number and made contact with us. One of them was Baruch Maman, that asked us to come to his school and explain about our project.
We went to the technological elementary school in Ramat Gan, and there we explained kids about FIRST - FRC and FLL.
We presented our robot and taught the kids how to control it, and then we let them to drive it.
Finally, we explained the kids about the physical and mechanical elements we used to make the robot work.
