FLL

FIRST Lego League is an international competition organized by FIRST for elementary and middle school students.
The FLL competition is based on a real-world topics related to the science, while each the challenge in the competition is based on that subject.
The kids participating in the competition should build, design and program a Lego robot that completes those tasks. After several weeks the FLL teams meet in the regional tournaments and present their robot.

Steampunk believes that in order to arouse interest in technology among people and achieve the maximum potencial that exist in the FRC teams we should teach them the basics while they are still young.
Therefore we aim to improve and nurture our youth since an early age and teach them the basics of technology generally, and the basics of the robotics particularly.

This season, like in previous years, we guide several FLL teams inside and out side our city.
Our team leads five FLL teams in Ra'anana and one FLL team in Even Yehuda towards the FLL competition.

ICR

The Israeli Conference On Robotics is a conference that took place in the Israeli Air Force Center, Herzelia, on the 19th and 20th of November, 2008.
People from all over the world came to see the Israeli robots.

Some of our team members went to that conference in order to represent and provide information about FIRST, and find sponsors for the Israeli FRC teams and FIRST Israel in general.

Teaching The Beta System

Our team was the first team in Israel to recieve the Beta system, and, with Mevo'ot Eiron 1657, we experimented with the Beta system.
We hosted some teams, like Tel Nof #1942, Zachria's Angels #2230, Israel Aircraft Industries #2211, and "Hadarim" #3075, and explained them about the beta system while giving them useful tips.
We asked the members of the team who had worked with the beta system to comment on the experience.
the programming crew (Stuv Schaffer and Nir Ziv) shared their experience.
"We had the task of teaching the new program (LabVIEW 8.5) to all the Israeli teams.
The teaching load was divided between Steampunk and Mevo'ot Eiron 1657" Said Stuv. "We enjoyed teaching and we know how crucial a good program is for a successful team. While teaching our greatful students we also learned the program ourselves" Nir explained.
Yair Mendlovich, along with the rest of the systems crew, taught the teams how to use the new system. "We explained to the teams how to use the new wireless robot communication and what problems they can lookout for. We made sure they understood how the new system works and not just how to use it."
In our opinion think teaching develops skills that are just as important as winning the championship if not more.
We also believe that the interaction between teams forwards the FIRST cause.

e-Camp

A technological camp that took place in Alonei Yitzhak.
We brought last season's robot to the camp and simulated throwing a ball and catching it while letting kids to control the robot.
In the camp there were many technological machines, and we brought, in addition to our FRC robot, a little VEX that can catch a ball and put it inside a pipe.
We let kids exprience driving the VEX robot as well as organizing a tournament between them. We also did some social activities, such as building a marshmallow bridge.
We showed them videos of FIRST and the competition to get them interested in robotics. We also explained them about the robot and the process of building it.
The camp included Hebrew-speaking kids from Israel and abroad, as well as English-speaking kids at the ages of 13-15.
We were assisted by ex-members of Steampunk, like Alon Slutzky which guided the camp as a mentor. We came to the camp twice and have kept in contact so they can continue working with us. One of them was Baruch Maman which brought us to his school in Ramat Gan where we also presented our robot.
