Atlanta - Here We Come!
After long time of effort and many sleepless nights, the FRC competition began. The training day of the competition (17.03) was pretty disappointing because we all hoped to come and see some breathtaking battles and were not expecting to sit and do nothing but observing an empty field. The games started 7 hours later than was planned and we were very excited to see that everything works properly, in spite of the big delay.
During the 18.03-19.03 days (the competition days) we did all we could to win the competition, but unfortunately we were beaten in the quarter finals and lost our chance to win the "Best Robot" award. However, we won the "Engeneering" award, which is one of the most important prizes in the competition, that is acquired by advancing technology and helping other teams. With this award we earned the ability to participate in the world competition that takes place in Atlanta, United States. The FLL regional competition also took place in the 18.03.

The Game Pieces And The Trailer
As we are getting close to the close of the 6-week period of building, we at Steampunk are excited towards this year's competition and getting ready to the tournament.
In order to get some practice before the tournament, we bought the closest thing we could find in Israel to mimmic the RegoLith.
In addition, as we seen on the web, we created Moon Rocks on our own (as getting them from USA was very difficult and at a very small quantity) using Ploycrabonte strips and cloth stripes to go on it and rivets to hold them together. The result was 14 new game pieces that were created by most of our team members together, giving us a brief respite from the day to day work and a fun experience as a team.
After getting the game pieces done we decided to build a trailer. In fact we built 2 trailers. One was meant to be used as anexperiment and then for the practice of the drivers to score points, and was build almost fully.
The second one was meant to mimmic the trailer attached to the robot so the chassis driver can learn to drive with a trailer mounted before the tournament.
All in all, alongside building our robot we took time to have fun as a team and be productive at the same time. We are looking forward to see everyone at "Yad Eliho" and see other team's robots.
See you at the tournament,
Steampunk #1577

Israel's President Visits Steampunk
The 13/01/09 was an exciting day in the city of Ra'anana, and espicely in Aviv high school and its robotics team, Steampunk 1577.
The president of Israel, Shimon Perez, visited our city and high school and came to see last year's robot and the students who take part in Steampunk.
He drove the robot, got an explantion about FIRST and took a photo with us.
We were glad to represent FIRST infront of our country's authorities, and the many journalists and important people who was there.

The Competition Begins - Kickoff 2009
Today is the day we have been waiting for a long time - the kickoff.
We were very excited to see this year's game, and we prepared everything to start working.
First of all we watched the webcast of the FRC kickoff in Nasa TV.
After seeing what the game was about, we set out and started reading the PDF's that FIRST has published and learned the game rules.
Then we chose the main stratgey for our robot and thought about his abillities, and at the end we made a model of the Trailer, The Crater (game field) and a Possible robot in VEX.
